Almost everyone loves an online quiz. They’re interactive, entertaining, and people like sharing the outcomes with their friends on social media. ShortStack gives you the ability to easily create quizzes of your very own that can be published as a landing page and embedded on your website. Quizzes are a fantastic way to simultaneously engage with your audience and collect valuable information from them so you can tailor your marketing efforts and grow your email lists.
In this guide, we’ll walk through some of the reasons to host a quiz for your followers, as well as how to set up a quiz of your very own.
Learn what types of quizzes are available with ShortStack.
We offer two types of quiz templates -- the Personality Quiz and the Knowledge Quiz.
The Personality Quiz allows quiz takers to choose responses to questions that best fit their likes, dislikes or opinions. At the end of the quiz, they are provided with a “personality” outcome.
The Knowledge Quiz asks quiz takers to select the correct answer to each question. At the end of the quiz, participants are shown their score.
What goals are you trying to achieve?
Raising brand awareness: Quizzes are not only entertaining, but they can be highly effective at educating potential customers about your product or service. With the Personality Quiz, you can recommend a product or service at the end of the quiz based on the responses. The Knowledge Quiz allows you to test participants to see how much they know about something related to your business. Of course, quizzes can be mostly for fun as well; that decision is completely up to you.
Collecting leads: If you’re looking to collect leads, quizzes can be a refreshing change from running a contest. Quizzes provide the incentive of viewing the result in exchange for an email address, along with whatever additional information you wish to collect. Offering an engaging quiz can help you to build a strong email marketing list filled with qualified leads.
What data do you expect to collect?
Quizzes allow you to collect much more information than normal. The nature of a quiz – people answering questions – means you’ll receive a lot of data. We collect respondents’ answers to quiz questions and their quiz results, in addition to any other information you ask. When building your quiz, you should construct each question in such a way that the answers provided will give you some kind of information about your participant to supplement your future marketing efforts.
Setting up an online quiz may seem intimidating to some. Lucky for you, our quiz templates with their built-in set-up wizards make configuring your quizzes easy.
In this guide, we’ll walk through how to set up a quiz using the Personality Quiz template. The concept is very similar to the Knowledge Quiz template.
Once you’ve finished building your quiz, you’ll want to distribute it to as many people as you can. Get creative and have fun with it! Here are a few examples of how you can get the word out:
In-Person
Quizzes work great for in-person situations like retail locations or convention booths where you have a tablet handy. Just direct folks to your tablet and have them complete the quiz right then and there. To sweeten the deal, combine the quiz with a coupon code or other prize. Alternatively, provide a QR code for folks to scan and take the quiz on their own mobile devices.
Your Website
Leverage your website traffic to drive visitors to your quiz landing page. Try adding a link or splash graphic on your company’s homepage that takes them directly to the quiz. If you want to take it a step further, you can embed the quiz directly into your website.
Social Media Channels
Social media marketing to the rescue! Share the link to your quiz on all of your social media channels - if someone follows you on social media, it’s very likely they’ll also want to participate in your quiz.

As long as you’ve used the Form Widget built into the template to collect information from your quiz takers (and didn’t remove any of the hidden data-collection fields), you’ll also have a record of entrants’ quiz question answers and outcomes. To see this data, you’ll need to dive into the Entries Manager. There are two different ways to get there.
Starting from the Dashboard:
Starting from the Campaign Builder:
You should now be in the Entries Manager, where you can view and filter all of your entries. To see an entry’s specific information (such as the quiz answers they selected), hover over any entry, then click the View Details button that appears.
On the right side of the Entry Details screen, you’ll see all of the information associated to the entry, including the quiz answers and outcomes. This data is also included if you export the entries.
